Mass Protests Sweep U.S. After Strikes on Iran Nuclear Sites
(MENAFN) Following the U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities yesterday, widespread anti-war demonstrations took place across the United States on Sunday, with major gatherings in New York City, Washington D.C., and several other locations.
In Times Square, approximately 100 protesters convened, brandishing signs that read "Stop The War On Iran," "Hands Off Iran," and related slogans. Meanwhile, similar protests were documented near the White House, with videos shared widely on social media platforms.
According to the ANSWER Coalition, one of the primary organizers, these emergency demonstrations were coordinated in over 15 cities nationwide.
On their website, the ANSWER Coalition condemned the attacks, stating, “(U.S. President Donald) Trump's unprovoked bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities is an outright war crime. It violates the UN Charter, international law and the U.S. Constitution. It threatens to set into motion a regional or even global war with massive casualties, nuclear radiation and catastrophic consequences.”
The coalition also called for an immediate halt to all U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran’s sovereignty. They emphasized that while the American public seeks increased investments in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, President Trump and his war hawks are initiating a conflict that endangers global security, results in Iranian and American casualties, and primarily benefits the military-industrial complex.
Etan Mabourakh, organizing manager for the National Iranian American Council, criticized the president’s decision for bypassing Congressional approval, warning that it risks serious retaliation from Iran and endangers American troops. Mabourakh said, “President Trump took his faithful decision without Congressional approval, even though it will trigger serious reprisals from Iran and put American soldiers directly in the line of fire. It was done not in response to any imminent threat.”
Speaking at Times Square, Mabourakh urged for calm and dialogue, emphasizing, “We urge restraint. We urge diplomacy. Diplomacy is the only way to solve problems. Bombs have never brought liberation.”
The ANSWER Coalition predicts the continuation of these protests in the coming days, including a large-scale national march scheduled for June 28 in Washington D.C.
