Maritime Threat Level Rises in Red Sea

(MENAFN) The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) issued an immediate advisory on Sunday, raising the risk level to “high” for US-linked commercial ships operating in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.

The alert comes amid mounting regional instability after American military strikes on Iranian nuclear installations.

Tensions have intensified since US President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that US forces had executed "very successful" aerial assaults targeting three of Iran's nuclear facilities.

These developments have sparked increased anxiety over the potential for a wider conflict engulfing the region.

According to reports, the American operation involved six bunker-penetrating bombs dropped on Iran’s Fordo nuclear site by B-2 stealth aircraft.

Simultaneously, multiple cruise missiles launched from submarines struck Iran’s Natanz and Isfahan facilities.

In its announcement, the JMIC, which provides guidance to maritime stakeholders, stressed that this heightened threat level is a direct result of warnings issued by Yemen's Houthi forces against maritime interests tied to the US.

Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Houthi military, declared that Houthi forces would strike US cargo ships and naval vessels should Washington engage in any coordinated military campaign with Israel against Iran.

“The Houthis, supported by Iran, have a documented history of targeting shipping in the Red Sea and have previously expressed intent to act against US and Israeli interests at sea,” the JMIC explained.

The advisory clarified that vessels considered US-affiliated include those registered under the US flag, owned or operated by American entities, chartered by US companies, or transporting US-linked cargo.
