WHO Sends Emergency Medical Aid to Pakistan

(MENAFN) The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Monday that the organization has delivered enough medical supplies to assist 15,000 individuals affected by the catastrophic flooding in Pakistan.

Describing the floods as "devastating," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus offered his sympathies via the American social media platform X.

"WHO is supporting the government to meet health needs, and has sent medical supplies to treat 15,000 people," he stated.

Relief efforts continued on Monday as emergency teams, aided by military personnel and local residents, worked tirelessly to clear the rubble in various districts of northwestern Pakistan.

Entire communities, bridges, and critical infrastructure have been swept away by the floods, which have claimed over 350 lives in just the past four days.

The latest fatalities, resulting from the torrential rains and widespread flooding that began Friday in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have pushed the total number of deaths to 670.

This toll has been rising steadily since the initial wave of monsoon rains struck the region on June 26.
