Polish Premier Links Threat to Firebombing of PO Headquarters
(MENAFN) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed on Monday that a 44-year-old man, who is suspected of attempting to firebomb the headquarters of his party, Civic Platform (PO), last week, had previously issued threats against his life.
Tusk shared details of the incident in a post on X, identifying the suspect as Krzysztof B., a resident of Losice, located in eastern Poland. According to Tusk, Krzysztof B. had been charged in June for making death threats against him.
Tusk further explained, "In June, he was charged with threatening me with death, and in October, he tried to set fire to the PO headquarters. (Robert) Bakiewicz and (Jaroslaw) Kaczynski must be pleased. It was at their rally a few days earlier that he first shouted not to fear the courts, to pull out the weeds and throw napalm so they don't grow back."
The Prime Minister’s comments referenced remarks made by right-wing activist Robert Bakiewicz during a Law and Justice rally on October 11.
Bakiewicz had boldly declared, "Don't be afraid of prosecutors and courts, these people will pay the price ... justice must be served, that these weeds must be uprooted from Polish soil and napalm thrown on it so that they never grow back."
Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the opposition nationalist party, Law and Justice (PiS), was also mentioned by Tusk in his post.
Krzysztof B. was apprehended in connection with the alleged arson attempt outside PO’s headquarters, located on Wiejska Street in central Warsaw, on Friday.
Witnesses reported that the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at the building’s entrance, but he was quickly interrupted by a bystander.
The incendiary device failed to ignite and did not cause any injuries. Warsaw police confirmed that Krzysztof B. is facing charges for attempted arson and criminal threats, and the investigation is still ongoing.
