US, Russia, Ukraine engage in private peace discussions in Abu Dhabi
Citing a U.S. official and individuals familiar with the meeting, the reports stated that Driscoll and the Russian representatives began talks Monday night, with discussions scheduled to continue into Tuesday.
Driscoll was expected to meet Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), according to the reports.
The Abu Dhabi talks follow recent progress in discussions between Ukrainian and U.S. officials in Geneva over the weekend.
"Driscoll has been involved with this peace process pretty hot and heavy in the past few days," a U.S. official told reports. "He’s been obviously very involved, so he’s able to kind of communicate that piece” to Russia, the source added.
It was not immediately clear whether the three sides in Abu Dhabi were meeting together or holding separate discussions, as stated by reports.
