Tesla's sales in EU drop 34.2% in November on a yearly basis

(MENAFN) Tesla’s electric vehicle sales in the European Union fell sharply in November, dropping 34.2% year-on-year, according to figures released Tuesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

The US automaker sold 12,130 vehicles across the EU last month, down from 18,430 units in the same period a year earlier. As a result, Tesla’s market share declined to 1.4%, compared with 2.1% in November of last year.

The downturn has been even more pronounced over the longer term. During the first 11 months of the year, Tesla’s EU sales plunged 38.8% compared with the same period in 2024, totaling 129,024 vehicles.

Across a broader European market that includes the EU, the European Free Trade Association and the UK, Tesla’s sales also weakened, falling 11.8% year-on-year to 22,801 units in November.

The decline comes despite strong growth in the overall electric vehicle market. Battery electric car sales in the EU surged 44.1% last month to 188,730 units.

Chinese manufacturers, meanwhile, continued to gain momentum. BYD, one of Tesla’s main competitors, recorded a 235.2% year-on-year increase in EU sales, reaching 16,158 units in November. Its market share rose to 1.8%, up from 0.6% a year earlier.

Analysts attribute Tesla’s shrinking presence in Europe partly to intensifying competition from Chinese brands, as well as political backlash linked to CEO Elon Musk’s controversial positions and his involvement in European political debates.
