White House Says US Advancing Revised Iran Peace Plan
Speaking during a White House briefing, Leavitt reiterated Washington’s firm stance on Iran’s nuclear program, stating that "The president's red lines, namely, the end of uranium enrichment in Iran, have not changed."
She added that any U.S. engagement in talks hinges on restoring access to the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that discussions depend on reopening the critical shipping route "with no limitations or delays."
Earlier Wednesday, Iran halted tanker movements through the strategic waterway following Israeli strikes on Lebanon, according to a semi-official news agency.
Addressing the broader conflict, Leavitt clarified that "Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire. That has been relayed to all parties involved in the ceasefire."
She further noted ongoing diplomatic coordination, saying, "This will continue to be discussed, I am sure, between the president and Prime Minister Netanyahu, the United States and Israel and all of the parties involved."
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a stark response, urging Washington to make a decisive choice between de-escalation and continued conflict. "The Iran-U.S. Ceasefire terms are clear and explicit: the U.S. must choose -- ceasefire or continued war via Israel. It cannot have both," Araghchi wrote on X. "The ball is in the U.S. court, and the world is watching whether it will act on its commitments."
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned it would retaliate if attacks on Lebanon persist, as reported by a state broadcaster.
On the ground, Israeli airstrikes intensified across Lebanon on Wednesday, killing at least 87 people and wounding 722, according to officials. Heavily populated districts of Beirut were among the hardest hit in the latest wave of bombardment.
