Russia Claims It Has Taken Control of Settlement in Northeastern Ukraine
The ministry said its troops seized the village of Vovchanski Khutory, which lies roughly five kilometers (3.1 miles) from the Russia-Ukraine border.
The settlement had a population of about 1,300 based on Ukraine’s 2001 census. It is located just east of the town of Vovchansk, which Russia previously claimed to have captured in December.
Ukrainian authorities have rejected Moscow’s assertion regarding control of the area.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian forces had tried to break through defensive positions near three settlements on the South Slobozhansk front, including Vovchansk.
However, Kyiv has not yet issued a direct response to Russia’s latest claim, and independent verification of battlefield developments remains difficult due to the ongoing conflict.
